Type A Bags​

Type A tonne bags are commonly used bulk bags, jumbo bags, or container bags and are made of polypropylene and other non-conductive fabrics. As the contents move around inside the bag when it is filled or emptied, static electricity is generated on the bag’s inner surface. Type A bags are not antistatic, so they can be used to safely transport non-flammable products. Flammable solvents or gases should not be present around Type A bags.

Type B Bags​

A Type B tonne bag is similar to a Type A bag. It is made of polypropylene fabric or other non-conductive material. Type B bags do not have a mechanism to dissipate static electricity. However, Type B bags are made of materials with a low breakdown voltage of up to 6 kV to prevent high-energy, dangerous propagating brush discharges from occurring. Although Type B bags can prevent propagating brush discharges, they are not considered antistatic bags because they do not eliminate electrostatic charges. Type B bags can be used to transport dry, flammable powders. Flammable solvents or gases should not be present around Type B bags.

Type C

Type C tonne bags are also known as conductive tonnage bags or groundable tonnage bags and are traditionally made of non-conductive polypropylene fabric woven with conductive threads sewn in a grid pattern. These conductive threads must be electrically interconnected, as well as connected to a designated ground during charging and discharging. The ground connection during filling and discharge is essential for the safe use of Type C bags. Type C bags can be used to transport flammable powders. Type C bags should not be used if the ground connection is missing or damaged.

Type D Bags​

Type D bags are made of anti-static and static dissipative fabrics designed to safely prevent the occurrence of incendiary sparks, brush discharges, and propagating brush discharges without the need for a connection from the ton bag to a designated ground. Type D bags are manufactured from fabrics containing semi-conductive yarns that safely dissipate static electricity into the atmosphere through a safe, low-energy corona discharge. Type D bags can be used to safely package flammable products and handle combustible environments such as combustible powders and flammable vapors, gases, or combustible dusts. Type D bags should not be used if the surface of the tonne bag is contaminated or coated with conductive materials such as grease or other flammable materials.
